Falling Down the Rabbit Hole: Creating a Wonderland-Inspired Portrait
Falling Down the Rabbit Hole
The minute I saw this studio space—with its deep green velvet curtains and forest-like flooring—I knew I wanted to create something whimsical. It screamed Alice in Wonderland to me. But instead of Alice, I wanted to focus on the world she stumbled into: moody, strange, off-kilter. I had a clown at the ready for the shoot, but unfortunately that fell through - it’s ok though because I had the amazingly talented Sachi!
Model Spotlight: Sachi, AKA @chibith0t
Our Wonderland muse, @chbith0t, brought a soft strength and surreal energy to the set. She styled herself including hair and make up and come in with some great options to work with. After a quick steam of the clothes, we chatted about vision and got to work.
About the Studio: 1984 Studios (NYC)
1984 Studios is one of those hidden gems in the New York photography world—a fully-equipped rental space, high quality equipment, and a team that really cares about helping you get the look you want. Located in Brooklyn, the studio has multiple rooms and curated backdrops that feel cinematic, slightly surreal, and always photogenic. The green velvet curtain and faux grass floor in our set instantly set the tone for a dreamy, storybook look. It's the kind of space that does half the work for you—the rest is just imagination.
Props:
These were actually all in studio. I stole the cups they use for espresso and used them for my teacups. There was a plethora of chairs to grab and use as well. I liked the transperant bucket — so I grabbed it and put it upside down!
